NAU College of Nursing Alumni Spotlight | Larissa Haro

Meet Larissa Haro who recently graduated in December with both her associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing, earned through a concurrent enrollment program at Pima Community College and Northern Arizona University.

From a young age, Larissa felt a deep calling to help others. While she originally aspired to become a doctor, she ultimately chose the path of nursing, a profession she felt allowed her to provide comfort during pain, reassurance during fear, and strength during vulnerability.

In her final semester in the program, Larissa was awarded the Elanor Joan Kellis Memorial Scholarship from NAU. As a single mother, Larissa shared that the scholarship helped ease the financial burden of her final semester, enabling her to focus more fully on her studies and prepare for the nursing board exam. She strives to emulate Elanor’s legacy by offering not just skilled clinical care, but also genuine kindness and humanity in every patient interaction.

Larissa is now employed in the ICU, where she is making a meaningful impact on the lives of her patients each day. She carries with her a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility, recognizing that her journey has been supported by the generosity of others.
