NAU students can connect with local and national organizations
Networking with other OT students and professionals is a great way to learn more about careers in Occupational Therapy and cultivate relationships that are mutually beneficial. Students pursuing their OT degree from NAU have several options to connect.
Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity
NAU became a recognized Coalition of Occupational Therapy Advocates for Diversity Chapter in 2019. COTAD is a national organization dedicated to increasing diversity within the occupational therapy workforce by empowering occupational therapy practitioners, educators, and students to enhance cultural humility and promote diversity and inclusion. NAU’s Chapter is student-led, and designed to support occupational therapy students to work together to develop and promote diversity and inclusion within occupational therapy education programs and in the profession. Go Baby Go — Phoenix
Go Baby Go is an organization that helps children with complicated bodies to move and explore through powered mobility cars. Children learn through exploring their worldĚý˛ą˛Ô»ĺ environment, but many children with disabilities/special needs aren’t able to do this due to their condition. Go Baby Go gives these children the opportunity to explore their world independently, like typical children are able to.
NAU students in both the OT and PT departments work together to adapt and modify toy cars for these children with postural support, seats, and adapted switches. For more information, please visit our .
Pi Theta Epsilon
Pi Theta Epsilon is an honor society for occupational therapy students and alumni. Its mission is to promote research and scholarship, contribute to the advancement of occupational therapy through scholarly activities, and provide a vehicle for students to exchange information and to collaborate regarding scholarly activities.
Occupational therapy students are invited to apply to PTE if they have completed two semesters of the program, have at least one semester left before their Level II Fieldwork rotation, and are among the top 35% of the class.
Student Occupational Therapy Association
The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA), is a student-run organization that supports student involvement in the local community, the Arizona Occupational Therapy Association, and the American Occupational Therapy Association. SOTA’s mission is “To enhance the knowledge of the profession of occupational therapy through professional, educational, community, and social activities. The organization will facilitate opportunities for camaraderie among students, as well as provide meaningful, productive interaction with faculty.”
